abstract A novel and useful pressure sensor array comprising sensor elements constructed as a substrate from an electrically conductive film. Examples of commercially available electrically conductive (ie piezo-resistive) films include bellostats and link stats. A wearable device is described that includes an array of pressure sensors with flexible properties and an interface of biocompatible material between the sensor elements and the user's skin. The pressure sensor array uses an electrically conductive film as a substrate and arranges a pair of conductors in a suitable structure to form individual sensor elements. The sensor elements sense a change in the resistance of the electrically conductive film when pressure is applied to the electrically conductive film. The sensor elements can be implemented in a pod or opposing structure. The sensor array also includes a mechanical interface on top of the sensor elements for transferring or concentrating the pressure applied to the electrically conductive film.
