titleOfInvention Antenna-coupled radio frequency probe with replaceable tip
abstract Antenna coupled radio frequency (RF) probes with replaceable tips are described herein. In the described embodiments, the test signal is coupled onto the probe tip wafer via an on-tip antenna, whereby the probe tip is separated from the probe body. This allows for the individual manufacture of the probe body and the probe tip. As such, the probe tip can be made available as a "commodity" and the user can simply replace the worn or damaged probe tip, which provides a significant reduction in the unit cost and operating cost of the new contact probe. The separation of the probe tip from the probe body allows manual replacement of the probe tip without requiring the very precise alignment typically required for very high frequency probes. Manual replacement of the tip is only possible due to the much less stringent alignment requirements provided by the antenna coupling from the probe body to the probe tip.
