titleOfInvention System and method for finding lines in an image with a vision system
abstract The present invention relates to a method and system for locating a polyline feature in an image. Two related steps are used to identify line features. The first process involves calculating the x and y components of the gradient field at each image location, projecting the gradient field across multiple sub-areas, and calculating a number of edge points that produce multiple edge points with position and slope A plurality of gradient extrema are detected. The second process selects two edge points, fits the model lines to them, and if the edge point slope is consistent with the model, the entire set of inner floor point (s) whose position and slope match the model full set of inlier points. A candidate line with a maximum inner left count is maintained and a set leaving outlier points is derived. The process iteratively applies the subsequent outer layer set to find the line fitting operation and multiple line results. This process can be done on a thorough RANSAC basis.
