titleOfInvention An orthopedic impact application device having an launched mass that delivers controlled, repeatable & switchable impact forces
abstract A motor-driven orthopedic impact shaper is provided for orthopedic shock applications such as hip, knee, and shoulder. The tool can retain a broach, chisel, or other end effector to facilitate the removal of a broach, implant, or other surgical instrument from the opening or to expand the size or volume of the cavity when tapped with a gently controlled impact impact . The storage-energy drive mechanism stores the potential energy, and then releases the potential energy to launch the launched mass or striker to deliver the striking force to the adapter, either forward or rearward. The tool may further include an anvil and adapter combination and an energy control mechanism for adjusting the hitting force delivered by the launched mass to the adapter according to the patient profile.
