| abstract |
A system is described that includes a port assembly arranged in a wall of a column tube between flow column distributors that together form a chromatographic column tube having an inlet and an outlet and a chamber within the tube filled with packing media. The port assembly aids in the removal of the resin from the pre-packed column, and the port assembly does not affect the fluid flow in the normal use of the column for chromatographic separation or the ability to maintain sanitary conditions in the column. A method is also described, the method including the steps of attaching the tubing to the pump and to the column inlet and the column outlet, opening the port assembly, attaching the tubing to the port assembly and to the second storage vessel, From the storage vessel into the chamber and through the port assembly into the second storage vessel thereby removing the packing medium from the column with the flowing aqueous solution. |
