Lubrication system including DLC surface |
abstract |
The present invention provides a method of manufacturing a diamond-like carbon (DLC) comprising: a) a component comprising a first surface that is a diamond-like carbon (DLC) surface; b) a component comprising a second surface; And c) a lubricant formulation interposed between the first surface and the second surface. Lubricant formulations include: i) base stock; ii) molybdenum compounds; iii) an organic polymer comprising a hydrophilic polymer sub-unit selected from a hydrophobic polymer sub-unit selected from a polyester and a functionalized polyolefin and a polyether; And iv) optionally, other additives. The combination of the molybdenum compound and the organic polymer in the lubricant formulation reduces wear to one or more of the surfaces of the lubricating system as compared to using only the molybdenum-containing friction modifier. |
