Placing vascular access devices (intravenous, intraarterial, and / or intramedullary vascular access) in non-sterile environments can greatly increase the risk of infection through vascular access devices. The present invention provides an approach to achieving sterilization of the site where vascular access is attempted under non-aseptic field conditions. The present invention also provides an aseptic blood vessel connector to which an antimicrobial agent, for example, taurolidine, is pre-charged. The risk of infection is limited despite the approaching arrangement under non-aseptic field conditions, since the use of the vascular connector provides access to blood vessels and at the same time provides antibiotics. |
