This disclosure relates generally to open chain modified cellulose pulps and methods of making and using the same. More specifically, the open chain modified cellulose pulp described herein can be prepared by oxidation of cellulose pulp followed by reduction of the oxidized group, which results in an improved open chain that can be more efficiently converted into a cellulose derivative product Modified pulp having a shape can be produced. This specification also relates to the improved cellulose derivative products prepared from the above, for example cellulose esters, cellulose ethers, and regenerated cellulose products. |
