The present invention relates to the development of heterocyclic materials for use as red, green and blue phosphorescent materials among OLED devices. The material is based in part on a pair of aromatic or pseudo aromatic rings that are coordinated to the transition metal and bonded to each other. Related aromatic compound structures including azoborane, borazine, and boron can be incorporated as fused rings, pendant groups, or bridging groups to adjust color and improve chemical stability. The preferred structure can be selected by calculation to have sufficient triple energy for application as a blue emitter and sufficient chemical stability for use in the device. |
