Porous structures for extended release drug delivery devices |
abstract |
A therapeutic device for prolonged release drug delivery comprises a refillable storage container configured to receive a therapeutic agent and having an outlet for delivering the therapeutic agent from the storage container to the patient over an extended period of time. The porous structure is coupled near the outlet of the storage vessel, and the porous structure is formed of a sintered material. The barrier layer is coupled to the storage vessel on or adjacent to the surface of the porous structure such that upon delivery from the storage vessel through the outlet the therapeutic agent passes both the porous structure and the barrier layer. The porous structure is tuned to deliver the therapeutic agent at a diffusion rate and the barrier layer is configured to block passage of particles having an average particle size within an average particle size range outside the average particle size range blocked by the porous structure. Related methods and systems are provided. |
