abstract | The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food for preventing and treating a neurological autoimmune disease which contains a mixed extract of Coptidis rhizome , Scutellariae radix and Rhei Rhizoma as an active ingredient, , The mixed extract of the present invention not only improves the degree of neurological impairment and weight loss of disease in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) animal model, but also reduces dehydration and neurosarcoma (microglia and astrocytes) in the spinal cord (ICAM-1, VCAM-1), the expression of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1ß), chemokines (RANTES, MCP-1 and MIP- (Claudin-3, claudin-5, ZO-1) and the NF-kB signaling pathway. These effects were related to the mechanism by which the Treg cell activity was increased and Th1 cell halation was inhibited. Therefore, the mixed extract of the present invention can be used as a medicament which can prevent or treat the development of autoimmune diseases including neurological diseases including multiple sclerosis. |
