abstract The present invention relates to a novel therapeutic agent for gastroesophageal reflux diseases, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition capable of effectively preventing and treating gastroesophageal reflux diseases by comprising montmorillonite powder as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition of the present invention, due to having montmorillonite powder as its active ingredient, can suppress the actions of pancreatic protease and pepsin departed from a stomach, and the pharmaceutical composition has excellent safety, and is not absorbed in the human body, and thus can effectively prevent and treat gastroesophageal reflux diseases without concerns about side effects. Also, the montmorillonite powder, compared to pre-existing therapeutic agents for gastroesophageal reflux diseases, is easy to be produced and cost-effective, and thus the pharmaceutical composition of the present invention can be beneficially used to supply patients with gastroesophageal reflux diseases with an effective therapeutic agent reliably at a low price.
