abstract |
The present invention relates to an improved mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) preparation and a method for its preparation. The present invention provides a novel strategy for isolating MSCs from BM-MNCs by pooling a number of unrelated (third-party) bone marrow donors bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNC). MSC preparations made in accordance with the methodology of the present invention are characterized by a stable proliferative capacity and increased immunosuppression potential when compared to a pool of individual MSCs produced from individual donor MSCs or from multiple donors. MSCs prepared in accordance with the present invention are particularly useful for medical applications such as cell-based therapies in regenerative medicine and in the treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and patients with autoimmune disorders. |
