abstract | There is disclosed a curable silsesquioxane polymer comprising an outer layer comprising a core comprising a first silsesquioxane polymer and a second silsesquioxane polymer bonded to the core. The silsesquioxane polymer of the core, outer layer or a combination thereof comprises an ethylenically unsaturated group. The first silsesquioxane polymer of the core is bonded to the second silsesquioxane polymer of the outer layer through a silicon atom bonded to the three oxygen atoms. In some embodiments, the outer layer has a higher concentration of ethylenically unsaturated groups than the core. In this embodiment, the core may be substantially free of ethylenic unsaturation. In another embodiment, the core has a higher concentration of ethylenically unsaturated groups than the outer layer. In this embodiment, the outer layer may be substantially free of ethylenic unsaturation. The core and outer layers each comprise a three-dimensional branched network of silsesquioxane polymers that are different. The silsesquioxane polymer in the core and outer layers may be a homopolymer or a copolymer. Also disclosed are methods of making a curable silsesquioxane polymer comprising a core and an outer layer bonded to the core, an article comprising a curable or cured composition comprising the silsesquioxane core / outer layer polymer, and a curing method . |
