There is provided an electrochemical cell 2 having a battery casing 4, a first electrode 6, a second electrode 8, an electrolyte solution and a temperature-activated gelling agent disposed in the cell casing 4. [ The gel electrolyte comprises an electrolyte solution, and the gelling agent is formed by energizing the current through the electrochemical cell 2 so that the temperature of the gelling agent exceeds the activation temperature of the gelling agent. |
