Process for preparing rigid polyisocyanurate foams using natural-oil polyols |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a process for preparing polyisocyanates in the presence of a blowing agent, optionally in the presence of one or more of a surfactant, a flame retardant, a pigment, a catalyst and a filler, with a polyisocyanate at an isocyanate index of from about 175 to about 400 with a hydroxyl value of from about 175 to about 375, With at least one natural oil polyol comprising at least about 35% by weight (based on the weight of the polyol) of a natural oil having a hydroxyl functionality of from about 2.0 to about 2.8, wherein the renewable biosynthetic content Based on the total weight of the polyisocyanurate foam. The foams provided by the method of the present invention are similar in character to foams produced from petroleum-derived materials and find use in wall or roof insulation systems. A high bio content (> 8%) allows wall or roof insulation systems containing these foams to be considered for US government preference procurement. |
