abstract The present invention relates to glycerol acetal polyethers of formula I or formula II wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , and n have the meanings specified in the description of the invention. The glycerol acetal polyether is suitable as an electrolyte solvent in a lithium battery, particularly a lithium-sulfur battery. The hydroxyl content of the glycerol acetal polyether is preferably less than 0.2 wt%. In the production method of the glycerol acetal-polyether, polyether alcohol is glycerol acetal in the presence of an alkaline earth C 1 -C 18 mono- or di-alkyl sulfate or C 1 -C 18 mono- or di-alkyl is reacted with sulfonate.
