Extruded granular absorbent |
abstract |
Each pellet having an aggregate retention rate of at least 90%, including or including extruded pellets containing sufficient water-soluble binder to self-agglomerate when wet, respectively, An extruded granular sorbent formed of sorbent granules that produces agglomerates of granules that produces non-sticky agglomerates that minimizes adhesion between them. Such agglomerates preferably also have a breaking strength of at least 15 PSI upon drying. The pellets preferably contain a cold water-soluble amylopectin binder which solubilizes when wetted to promote flocculation as well as opening the interior of the pellet to improve its absorption capacity. Sorbents suitable for use as liters are formed of granules or pellets having a size falling within a plurality of different size ranges wherein the smaller size of the fine powder extends generally horizontally along the length of the litter by forming agglomerates on the litter. |
