abstract A surgical instrument (10) for use in vitreoretinal surgery is described. The surgical instrument may include a pair of fingers (13, 14) biased elastically toward the open configuration and movable toward each other in a closed configuration to engage the membranes. Each fin can include a rounded grip edge 22. The gripping edge may include a textured surface 50 operable to induce a capillary effect between the membrane and the forceps to promote adhesion between the membrane and the forceps.
