abstract Provided are surface-modified cells and a method for forming the same. The purpose of the present invention is to provide surface-modified cells with an improved survival rate in vivo. The surface-modified cells comprise cells, a binding functional group disposed on a surface of the cells, and a surface-modified material bound with the binding functional group. The surface-modified material is formed by the binding of at least one selected from polymeric materials, nanoparticles, and chelate molecules with a maleimide-based compound. The method for forming surface-modified cells comprises the steps of: surface-treating cells to form a binding functional group on a surface of the cells; and allowing the binding functional group to react with a surface-modified material.
