titleOfInvention Hydrophilicity alteration system and method
abstract A system / method is disclosed that allows hydrophilic modification of a polymeric material (PM). The hydrophilic modification of PM changes the properties of PM by changing the refractive index of PM, increasing the electrical conductivity of PM, and increasing the weight of PM. To influence this change in the properties of the PM, the system / method includes a laser radiation source that generates laser pulses focused densely in the three-dimensional portion of the PM. The system / method may be applied to the formation of a customized guide lens, including a material (PLM), wherein the lens created using the system / method is positioned surgically through the eye of the patient. The implanted lens refractive index can then be selectively changed to a laser pulse in place to change the optical properties of the implanted lens and thus achieve an optimal calibrated patient visual acuity. As the patient's age changes and the vision of the patient changes, the system / method allows for various modifications in place of the implanted lens.
