abstract After the subjects have consumed ethanol, the subject's breath is taken and the acetaldehyde concentration and the ethanol concentration in the breath are measured. From this measurement, the ratio of the acetaldehyde concentration to the ethanol concentration is calculated. Based on this ratio, the subject's aldehyde degrading enzyme active genotype and the risk of developing squamous cell cancer are determined.
