abstract The present invention relates to an optical line terminator and a method for registering an optical network terminating unit (ONU) in a passive optical network (PON) with time division multiplexing and wavelength division multiplexing. To this end, the optical line terminator according to the present invention comprises a main switch board for restoring a packet received from a user network interface card supporting various PONs and a service network interface card and then for providing a packet exchange function according to header information of the packet. The user network interface card comprises: an integrated PON MAC processing unit for supporting various PONs; and an optical transceiver connected to the integrated PON MAC processing unit and including a wavelength-tunable optical transmitter and a wavelength-tunable optical receiver. The integrated PON MAC processing unit sets available wavelength for the wavelength-tunable optical transmitter and the wavelength-tunable optical receiver, and registers an ONU using a wavelength the same as the set available wavelength in the wavelength-tunable optical transmitter and the wavelength-tunable optical receiver.
