Methods for making rosin esters are provided herein. The method can include contacting the rosin ester with a microporous adsorbent. Treatment with a microporous adsorbent, such as activated carbon, can be used to improve the color of the rosin ester (e.g., to reduce the knit Gardner color of the rosin ester by more than one Gardner color unit), to reduce the concentration of sulfur in the rosin ester (E. G., Reducing the concentration of sulfur in rosin esters by more than 50 ppm), or combinations thereof. Rosin esters prepared by the methods described herein, as well as methods for their use, are also described. |
