abstract In ultrasound imaging, for example, a shadow suppression 52 in the steered spatial compounding 60 is provided. Using a transformation or other approach, data of a frame of data is projected along the steering direction (54). The projection is used to determine (56) the weights. The frame is weighted 58 with projection-based weights to reduce (52) or eliminate shadows based on one frame rather than based on registration with other frames. In the steered spatial compounding 60 example, independently shadow suppressed component frames and compounded frames may have little or no fork-like image artifacts due to shadowing.
