titleOfInvention | Processes for bioconversion of carbon bearing materials |
abstract | A microbial community involvement process that converts at least one component in a carbon-containing material to a different product comprising at least one hydrocarbon. In the process, the microbial community is contacted with a composition that increases or decreases the relative number of at least one microbial species in the microbial community to improve the yield or selectivity of the process, or to change the rate of the process. The composition may be selected from a composition that affects the intracellular pathway of the at least one microorganism species, a composition that affects the intracellular signaling pathway involving the at least one microorganism species, and antisense RNA. In addition, the microbial community may be exposed to a signal such as a sound wave or an electromagnetic signal, or the environmental condition of the microbial community may be changed. |
