abstract |
Efficient crosslinking of hyaluronic acid (HA) is provided by the manufacturing process. In this process, HA is activated by initiation of crosslinking in an aqueous solution. The unreacted cross-linking agent is removed from the activated HA. The crosslinking of the activated HA is completed in a suspension comprising the liquid precipitation medium and the precipitated form of the activated HA without the addition of an additional crosslinking agent. The resulting crosslinked HA product exhibits a high effective cross-linker ratio and other desirable properties such that the product is useful as an implant in medical surgical and cosmetic surgery. |
