abstract The present invention provides low-dose pharmaceutical compositions comprising deferasilox or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. The unit dose of the pharmaceutical composition comprises from about 50 mg to about 100 mg of deferasilox, from about 150 mg to about 200 mg of deferasilox or from about 260 mg to about 350 mg of deferasilox. The pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention comprising deferasilox may be used to treat chronic iron overload or to treat lead toxicity. The pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention, including deferasilox and deferiprone, may be used to treat lead toxicity. The present invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the low-dose pharmaceutical composition comprising the steps of: preparing a dispersion of deferasilox by dissolving, adsorbing or mixing deferasilox and at least one additive; And processing the dispersion to produce the desired dosage form.
