The present invention relates to a new usage of kirenol, a Sigesbeckia pubescens L. extract, or a fraction thereof and, more specifically, to a composition for skin whitening containing kirenol or a Sigesbeckia pubescens L. extract containing the same. The extract can be extracted by one or more solvent selected from a group including water, a C1 to C6 organic solvent, subcritical fluid, and supercritical fluid. According to the present invention, the kirenol or a Sigesbeckia pubescens L. extract containing the same controls melanin generation and tyrosinase activity, thereby having an excellent skin whitening effect. Also, the skin whitening composition in the present invention is a natural material, thereby being safely used without side effects and being used as cosmetics or foods. |
