abstract The present invention relates to a method for producing a composite material, and also relates to the composite material itself. The composite material contains a bismuth-molybdenum-nickel mixed oxide or a bismuth-molybdenum-cobalt mixed oxide and a specific SiO 2 as a pore former. The invention also relates to the use of the composite material according to the invention for producing washcoat suspensions, and also to a method for producing a coated catalyst, using the composite material according to the invention. In addition, the present invention also relates to a coated catalyst having on the support a catalytically active shell comprising a composite material according to the invention. The coated catalyst according to the present invention is used to prepare alpha, beta -unsaturated aldehydes from olefins.
