titleOfInvention Porous materials having a fibrillar microstructure and a fracturable coating
abstract An article made of a porous material having a microstructure of bent fibrils and provided with a rupturable coating so that the physical size of the article can be changed by applying a force to the article in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of orientation of the fibrils. By applying a tensile force to these articles in a direction substantially parallel to the orientation of the curved fibrils, the rupturable material ruptures and the curved fibrils expand. A method for producing such articles is also disclosed. The article may include implantable articles such as vascular grafts and stent-grafts, which may be increased in diameter or length, for example by a force to rupture the coating. This coated material is a porous foamed polytetrafluoroethylene provided with a coating of ethylene propylene fluoride.
