abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of hydroxypivalaldehyde using a paraformaldehyde aqueous solution at a specific concentration. Specifically, according to the present invention, there is provided a process for the production of hydroxypivalaldehyde, which is capable of recycling paraformaldehyde and contributing to the reduction of waste water by dissolving paraformaldehyde in an aqueous solution of a certain concentration and using it in an aldol reaction.
