A blister piercing element for a dry powder inhaler |
abstract |
Disclosed is a blister puncturing element for perforating a lid of a blister for receiving a medicament for inhalation by a user. The perforation element includes a body including a surface and an opening in the surface such that air or an agent associated with the air can pass through the body. The body includes a pair of mutually spaced cut-outs that are spaced apart from one another and standing upright from the surface, each cut-out projecting over the openings and also having a cutting edge at the free end distal from the surface. When pressure is applied to the blister lid by the teeth, the cutting edge of each tooth begins to form a slit in the blister lid, and as the teeth continue to penetrate the blister lid, The teeth are spaced apart from each other so that the individual slits cut by the teeth are propagated in the direction toward each other between the teeth. A pair of spaced apart cutting teeth form a single slit in the blister lid that forms a single flap that folds into the blister by this tooth. |
