A control system is designed or configured to control the state of charge of a battery or battery pack in a system that includes a battery or a separate power source separate from the battery pack. In operation, a battery or battery pack requires intermittent power to be provided for certain functions. For example, the separate power source may be an AC electrical power source for a vehicle's UPS or engine, such as a micro-hybrid vehicle. The battery may be a nickel zinc hydride battery. The control system can be designed or configured to perform one or more of the following functions: monitoring the state of charge of a battery or battery pack; monitoring the state of charge of the battery or battery pack from a separate power source when the battery or battery pack does not perform its functions; Instructing a fast recharge of the battery pack, charging to a fully charged level, or responding to an operating system, to charge at a float charge level that is different from the fully charged level. |
