The present invention relates to an aromatic polycarbonate resin composition comprising an aromatic polycarbonate prepolymer and an aliphatic diol compound represented by the following formula (g2) in the presence of an ester exchange catalyst to obtain a high molecular weight aromatic polycarbonate resin. A method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate resin having a high molecular weight is provided. In the formula, Ra and Rb each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a straight chain or branched alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group, or an alkoxy group, or Ra and Rb may bond to each other to form a ring.
