A process for producing a dehydrogenation catalyst support comprising bayerite and silica is provided. Silica stabilized alumina powders prepared by spray drying bayerite powder, precipitating silica in bayerite slurry with acid, impregnating bayerite with sodium silicate solution or co-extruding bayerite and sodium silicate solution It has been found to be a good catalyst support precursor. Catalysts made from such silica-containing support materials now have a higher hydrothermal stability than catepin catalysts. There is also provided a dehydrogenation catalyst comprising Cr 2 O 3 , an alkali metal oxide, SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , and a method of using the catalyst to dehydrogenate olefins and / or dehydrogenatable hydrocarbons. |
