abstract |
The present application relates to an MR method for grading tumors using an imaging medium comprising hyperpolarised 13 C-pyruvate. In particular, the present application relates to a method of grading a tumor, comprising the steps of: a) detecting an alanine, lactate and optionally a bicarbonate signal of 13 C-pyruvate and its 13 C-containing metabolites, MR imaging of a tumor in a subject using an imaging medium comprising a < RTI ID = 0.0 > 13 C-pyruvate; < / RTI > b) generating a metabolic profile of the tumor using said signal and optionally a total carbon signal; c) comparing the metabolic profile of the tumor produced in step b) with a known metabolic profile of a particular grade tumor; And d) determining the grade of the tumor based on similarities and differences between the metabolic profile of the tumor and the known metabolic profile.
