abstract The present invention relates to a recombinant microorganism having kaurin-producing ability, which is a precursor of stevioside, and a process for producing kaurin using the recombinant microorganism. According to the present invention, a metabolic pathway is manipulated by a recombinant gene introduced into a microorganism, rather than directly separated from the extract of Stevia, so that a large amount of kaurin, a precursor of stevioside, which is a natural sweetener, can be provided by a simple process.
