Method for the preparation of triglycerides of medium-chain length fatty acids |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a process for preparing glycerol esters (triglycerides) of medium chain length monocarboxylic fatty acids consisting of the reaction of precursor free fatty acids with glycerol in the presence of a catalyst under partial vacuum. The method preferably uses a metal catalyst such as an oxide or a chloride of tungsten, molybdenum, calcium, zinc, chromium or magnesium. The process of the invention allows the production of high yield and high purity (greater than 99.5%) final triglycerides. The process allows the formation of the triglycerides in the absence of solvent. A pharmaceutical composition containing the triglyceride obtained by the above method and the triglyceride as an excipient or an active ingredient is also considered. |
