| abstract | A method and apparatus for applying a compression to a abdomen of a patient to facilitate insertion of a colon is characterized by the use of a tensile compression device formed of an elastic band wrapped around the abdomen of a patient and secured in place. The tension of the band is adjusted so that the colon can be fully inserted with minimal discomfort to the patient by applying appropriate pressure to the patient ' s abdomen to reduce the loop in the patient ' s colon. Both ends of the device are connected to each other so that a constant pressure and support can be provided to the colon of the patient when a desired degree of tension is obtained. Additional pressure may be applied manually at the same time as the pressure exerted by the tensioning device to reduce or eliminate the distal loop in the colon. |
