titleOfInvention | Low naphthenic liquid crystalline polymer composition for use in molded parts of a small dimensional tolerance |
abstract | There is provided a thermoplastic composition comprising a low naphthenic thermotropic liquid crystal polymer blended with a combination of flow modifiers. More specifically, one of the flow modifiers is a hydroxy-functional compound containing at least one hydroxyl functionality. Without wishing to be bound by any theory, it is believed that the hydroxyl functionality can react with the polymer chain to shorten its length and thus reduce the melt viscosity. Aromatic dicarboxylic acids are also used as flow modifiers in thermoplastic compositions. Again, without wishing to be bound by any theory, it is believed that these acids can combine the smaller chains of the polymer together after the polymer is cleaved by the hydroxy-functional compound. This helps to maintain the mechanical properties of the composition even after the melt viscosity is reduced. |
