abstract |
There is provided a large capacity lithium-ion electrochemical cell comprising a positive electrode comprising a layered lithium transition metal oxide having a first irreversible capacity, and a negative electrode comprising an alloyed anode material having a first irreversible capacity. The first irreversible capacity of the anode is smaller than the first irreversible capacity of the cathode. The discharge voltage curve of the anode covers at least 10% of its capacity at a voltage less than 3.5 V against Li / Li + .
