abstract | The present invention relates to a highly active olefin polymerization catalyst comprising a boron containing silica support and to the preparation thereof. The present invention is characterized in that the support is heat treated together with a chemical treatment using a boron compound. The boron compound used in the chemical treatment of the present invention is a boron halide, preferably boron trichloride. The catalyst of the present invention has a weight of boron of 0.5 to 0.7% of the support and a weight of boron of 0.1 to 0.5% of the catalyst. The catalyst of the present invention has a chemical composition comprising: - 0.1-0.5 wt% boron; - 4-6 wt% titanium; 2-6 wt% magnesium; 15-25% by weight chloride. |
