abstract |
The present invention provides a process for the production of succinic acid, said process comprising the steps of: - providing magnesium succinate; - acidifying the magnesium succinate with hydrogen chloride (HCl) to obtain a solution comprising a succinic acid and magnesium chloride (MgCl 2 ); -, any concentration step for concentrating the solution containing the succinic acid and MgCl 2; - precipitated the succinic acid from the solution comprising a succinic acid and MgCl 2, and a succinic acid to obtain a precipitate, and MgCl 2 solution. The inventors have found that the precipitation of succinic acid from the solution after the addition of HCl to the magnesium salt of succinic acid results in a very efficient separation of succinic acid from the magnesium succinate solution. |
