titleOfInvention Dual Orientation Electronic Connector with External Contact
abstract There is provided a dual orientation connector having a connector tab having opposing first and second major surfaces and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the connector tab. The plurality of contacts includes a first set of outer contacts formed on the first major side and a second set of outer contacts formed on the second major side. Each individual contact in the plurality of first contacts is electrically connected to a corresponding contact in the plurality of second contacts in the tab or body. In some embodiments, the contacts of a plurality of first and second contacts directly opposite each other are connected together. In some other embodiments, the contacts in the plurality of first and second contacts that are in a diagonal relationship to each other are connected together. The plurality of first contacts are symmetrically spaced from the plurality of second contacts and the connector tab is formed to have a 180 degree symmetry and can be inserted and operatively connected to the corresponding receptacle connector with one of the two insertion orientations.
