Additive compositions for hot melt adhesives which can be removed with caustic and formulations containing them |
abstract |
An additive composition for imparting a property that can be removed with a caustic agent to a hot melt adhesive includes an ester functionalized polymer comprising a polymer backbone and at least one dicarboxylic acid moiety pendant thereon in at least a partial ester form . The polymer skeleton has a weight average molecular weight of less than 50,000. The ester functionalized polymer may be, for example, at least a partial ester of a maleated hydrocarbon. The additive may further comprise a low molecular weight alpha, beta ethylenically unsaturated anhydride containing or acid containing polymer. Hot melt adhesive compositions that can be removed with caustic include hot melt adhesive additives and conventional hot melt adhesive resins. Adhesive labels that can be removed with caustic include a substrate, and hot melt adhesive compositions that can be removed with a caustic, including an additive composition. Hot melt adhesives that can be removed with caustic can be used on labels for articles such as glass bottles. |
