abstract Containment devices and manufacturing and assembly methods are provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises at least one microchip element comprising a containment reservoir which can be electrically activated for opening, and a first electronic printed circuit board (PCB) comprising a biocompatible substrate. The first PCB may have a first side to which one or more electronic components are secured and an opposing second side to which the microchip element is secured in an electrical connection to one or more electronic components. The apparatus may further include a housing ring for fixing the first PCB together with the second PCB and the second PCB. The microchip element may comprise a plurality of containment reservoirs which may be microreservoirs and / or may comprise a drug formulation or a sensor element.
