Rechargeable electrochemical batteries in the form of single or multi-stranded wire assemblies can be used as a power source for a number of implantable or non-implantable medical devices. Wire type batteries can be used to power medical devices, which in the past have been non-active but could be improved by active components, because they can be made to scale to micro size. The wire-shaped battery can be cut to size for a particular application, which provides the same open circuit voltage regardless of how the wire is ultimately constructed and regardless of the length of the wire used. Although the battery is in the form of a wire, various arrangements of components within the battery are also possible. |
