The present invention relates to an encapsulation method comprising alginate-based microencapsulation for immunoprotection and long-term action of a biological material or therapeutic agent. The biological material or therapeutic agent is surrounded by a film formed by gelation of an alginate polymer. Specifically, although not by way of limitation, the encapsulation system is intended for use in allograft or xenotransplantation. The membrane provides a protective barrier of encapsulated material to ensure long-term persistence and to prevent unwanted influences from outside the barrier wall, e.g., inflammatory or immune reactions. Further, the present invention relates to a method for producing and providing an encapsulated product for use in cell therapy. The therapeutic agent obtained by the encapsulation method can provide a method for improving or treating various conditions. |
