abstract There is provided a method for marking a multi-layer article having an adhesive layer and a release liner using a laser to create a marking in more than one layer of the article. The method comprises the steps of providing a multilayer article comprising a laser markable adhesive film and a laser markable release liner having a release layer, and at least one visually recognizable film on each of the laser markable adhesive film and the laser markable release liner, At least a first release mold is provided for inducing an interaction between the first organic polymer and the first photosensitive pigment in the laser markable adhesive film in the laser markable releasable liner and the second organic polymer and the second photosensitive pigment in the laser markable release liner, Marking the laser markable adhesive film and the laser markable release liner by directing laser radiation through the layer from a first source of laser radiation into the multi-layer article. The release layer is substantially transmissive to laser radiation. Multilayer articles with multilayer laser marking are also disclosed.
